Gareth Jones began his music career as a producer, engineer and mixer in 1980, honing his skills on releases by John Foxx and Madness. Since then Jones has worked with a huge number of diverse artists ranging from pop through to far more uncompromising artists, with his recent projects taking in work with the likes of Interpol, Grizzly Bear, Emmy The Great and Wild Palms, and his work for Mute has included more or less every artist or group that ever found a receptive home at the label. Jones worked with Daniel Miller and Depeche Mode on the band's 1983 Construction Time Again, a project that included working heavily with tapes and early samplers, the pinnacle of which was 'Pipeline', largely realised in an East London railway yard.
'Summer Solstice 2013', Jones's contribution to MuteResponse, is an organic counterpart to 'Pipeline's clangorous industrial leanings, taking pealing bells, the sounds of birds, traffic and other field recordings into its subtly processed sound world.
